Installation 'Balance' and Brand Identity for the exhibition '70 Years of Basic Law' in Stuttgart.

To mark the 70th anniversary of the German Basic Law, the ABK organized an exhibition at the Forum Stuttgart in collaboration with Jan Bazing. The aim of the organizers was to communicate the Basic Law to a broad public in a vivid and accessible way. To this end, artists, musicians and speakers were invited. There were panel discussions, lectures and games. The visitors were to get a feeling for the special nature of our Basic Law and learn to look at the humanist achievements formulated there with a little pride.
Bartholomaedesign was responsible for the visual design of the event. The CI included posters, banners, a signage system and the creation of a website with program information. The monochrome expression of the design and the use of black and silver blended in with the concrete architecture of the Bürgerforum. This lent seriousness and dignity to the theme and emphasized the solemnity of the occasion.
A central exhibit at the event was the “Balance” installation created by Bartholomaedesign. A 6-metre-wide mobile visualized basic rights. Visitors had the opportunity to stand in the middle of this light and mobile work of art and observe the symbolic society with its rights and duties. In a playful way, they encountered the laws that are interconnected and affect us all. They were able to view the installation at their leisure and study further explanations on a specially developed website for desktop and mobile views.
Many people are not sufficiently familiar with the basic rights of the German constitution. They need to be communicated more effectively. Knowledge of our rights and obligations would prevent many discussions and upsets from arising in the first place. For example, many people are not aware of paragraph 16a, the right to asylum in the event of political persecution. This fact is clearly integrated into the installation. Again, some people who come to us are not aware that men and women have equal rights, as described in Article 3. We do not need a newly formulated guiding culture, as some in Germany are demanding, but simply the consistent communication of our rights and duties. In this sense, the anniversary celebration at the ABK Stuttgart was a great success.

Like a mobile, the German Basic Law with its fundamental rights stands for an orderly and balanced coexistence. The rights and duties of the state and its citizens define our freedom.

For the visualization of the basic rights, Bartholomaedesign created a 6m wide mobile. The challenge was to allow the individual parts to move freely and be balanced.

Mobiles enchant with their lightness, mobility and liveliness. The shadows cast under certain lighting conditions lend an additional aesthetic dimension.

One element of the installation are cubes that refer to the various articles of the basic rights. The combination of silver and black surfaces makes the rotation of the cubes interesting.
Another component are figures illustrated by Bartholomaedesign. Each figure shows a silver and a black side and illustrates the respective laws.

Bartolomaedesign developed an accompanying website for desktop and mobile that explains the 'Balance' installation and conveys the German constitution in an understandable way. The project also included banners, posters and a signage system in the CI look of the event.
